It is intended to entertain and spark the imaginations of upper middle grade boys and girls as they follow Theo and Olivia’s quest to find their mysteriously missing uncle and to defeat two spies who want to bring the world to its knees.Olivia and Theo are sent to spend the summer at Bedford Falls with their uncle, Professor Austin Hazelsmith, an eminent scientist and inventor. When they climb off the train at Bedford Falls, no one is at the station to meet them. Undaunted, they take a cab to his home where they are greeted with poorly concealed dismay by Lena Zelinsky, their uncle’s creepy housekeeper, and Vladimir Trokov, his unscrupulous laboratory assistant. The two tell Olivia and Theo that their increasingly absent-minded uncle has left on a sailing trip and might be gone for months.Sensing that things are amiss, Olivia and Theo join forces with a neighbor boy to uncover the truth about Professor Hazelsmith’s whereabouts. The children discover the professor and his former housekeeper are shrunken to doll size and imprisoned in rodent cages. The devious Trokov and Zelinsky are holding them hostage. The villainous pair plans to steal the professor’s scientific formulas and use them to further their fiendish goals. The children, with bravery and brains, outwit Trokov and Mrs. Zelinsky in a spirited and exciting showdown.
